"Kenpo employs linear as well as circular moves, utilizing intermittent power when and where needed, interspersed with minor and major moves which flow with continuity. It is flexible in thought and action so as to blend with encounters as they occur." -- Edmund K. Parker

NOTE: A student not ready for their next colored belt may be "tabbed" at a test until they are ready to move to the next colored belt.

In Ed Parker's Kenpo, there are 10 degrees of Black Belt.

Typically between attaining the rank of Black Belt and 1st Degree Black Belt, usually one year must pass as well as learning Long Form 6.  Beyond that, generally, the next Black Belt Degree is not considered until as many years have passed as equivalent to the previous degrees, as well as demonstrate improved skill and knowledge of Kenpo.
